As part of the Europe Day celebrations, EUROPE DIRECT Gozo hosted the Europe Day in Gozo 2025 event on Saturday, 3rd May, at Villa Rundle Gardens in Victoria, from 10:00 to 18:00. This vibrant celebration was organised in collaboration with the Ministry for Gozo and the Cultural Heritage Directorate, as part of the Spring Fair programme.

Distinguished speakers included Daniel Borg, CEO of the Gozo Business Chamber; Mario Sammut, Head of the European Parliament Liaison Office in Malta; and Mark Vella, Acting Head of the European Commission Representation in Malta. They each highlighted the ongoing significance of the European Union and shared insights on its future direction.

The event featured a diverse range of EU information stands and service providers, offering visitors valuable insights into the EU’s role, its institutions, and the support services available to citizens.

One of the key highlights was a presentation by GLOBE Malta, which showcased its latest project focusing on the world of bees, carried out in collaboration with EUROPE DIRECT Gozo. Ramona Mercieca, GLOBE Deputy Coordinator, introduced a group of students who recited poems and shared personal reflections on their experience with this environmental initiative. A commemorative book compiling projects from participating schools—published jointly by GLOBE Malta and EUROPE DIRECT Gozo—was also launched during the event.

Nature Trust – FEE (Malta), represented by Marvic Refalo and her team, engaged visitors with informative presentations on their continued work in Maltese nature conservation. They explained their grassroots interventions and efforts to promote environmental awareness across the islands.

Adding a rich cultural element to the celebration, students from the Visual and Performing Arts School Gozo delivered a captivating multidisciplinary performance, blending drama, dance, visual art, and music, including a live ensemble that added energy and vibrancy to the day.

The event also featured an eTwinning stand, marking the 20th anniversary of this innovative EU educational initiative. Educators and students participated in a panel discussion highlighting the many opportunities eTwinning provides to those involved in collaborative projects across Europe. Visitors were also invited to participate in a digital scavenger hunt, making the experience interactive and engaging.
