The Europe Direct Information Centre – Victoria Gozo with the support of the European Commission Representation in Malta celebrated Europe Day on Sunday, 28th April with a family event at the Villa Rundle Garden in Victoria, Gozo.
People had the opportunity to enjoy an entertainment-filled afternoon with the participation of , Centre Stage Dance Academy, Alegria Flamenco Gozo, Mnarja Folk Dance Group, Turning Pointe Dance Theatre, Gozo Gymnastics Academy, singer Elisa Stellini and the DCapitals Band.
Information stands from the Europe Direct Information Centre -Victoria Gozo, Solvit Centre Malta, European Asylum Support Office, Europe for Citizens, EU Funds and Programmes Division, Malta European Parliament Liaison Office in Malta, Urbact Malta, Wasteserv Malta and the Central Public Library – Malta were set up providing relevant and actual information to those present on the role of their office and the benefits citizens can reap from the services offered. EU related publications and promotional material were also distributed.
People also had the opportunity to participate in an activity which involved taking a photograph displaying the priority issue of their choice and were prompted to discuss their views on issues regarding the EU with respect to the upcoming elections. They also filled the pledge to vote card.
The Institute of Tourism Studies Gozo also participated and provided free and delicious food tasting of different European cuisines which were enjoyed by all present.
Children also had the opportunity to enjoy various EU related activities and crafts by the Bejta Crafts, and a number of other activities by ‘Buzzy Kids Entertainment’ including face painting with EU flags, bouncing castle, sports pitch and balloon modelling.
Various MEP candidates were present during this event where they met with the public and afterwards participated in a debate organised by the ‘Association of Gozitan Employees in Malta’.
