EUROPE DIRECT Gozo, in collaboration with GLOBE Malta, successfully launched the Water Wise Project 2025 on Wednesday, 12th November, at the GĦAJN National Water Conservation Awareness Centre in Rabat, Malta.
This initiative marks the fifth year of collaboration between Europe Direct Gozo and GLOBE Malta – a partnership that continues to inspire students and educators to explore key environmental themes each year.
Mr Jesmond Buttigieg, Manager of Europe Direct Gozo, opened the event by emphasising the importance of water as a vital resource for humanity and the need to safeguard it for future generations. He also reflected on the journey of this collaboration – from past projects such as the Air Quality Campaign, Soil Project, and Bloom and Buzz Project, to this year’s focus on water conservation.
Ramona Mercieca, Deputy Coordinator of GLOBE Malta, introduced the Water Wise Project, explaining its objectives and how schools will be participating in rainfall and water monitoring exercises in the months ahead.
Amanda Zahra, from the Energy and Water Agency, presented the work being carried out at the GĦAJN Centre, offering students valuable insight into Malta’s national efforts on water conservation.
Mark Vella, Head of Communications at the European Commission Representation in Malta, delivered the concluding remarks, highlighting the European Union’s commitment to sustainability and environmental awareness.
The event concluded with interactive games and activities around the GĦAJN Centre – an engaging and educational experience for all the participating schools!
Europe Direct Gozo thanks GLOBE Malta for this long-standing collaboration, which year after year helps instil environmental responsibility among young students through practical learning and teamwork
