On Saturday 4 May, EUROPE DIRECT Gozo, in collaboration with the European Parliament Liason Office (EPLO), Aġenzija Żgħażagħ and Reġjun Għawdex, organised an informative session at the Queen Mary University of London Gozo Campus, Victoria, ‘Where I Stand – youth voices for the regions’. The aim of this session was to create a space for dialogue between youth, Dr Mario Sammut (Head EPLO); Dr Samuel Azzopardi (Gozo Regional Council); Michael Galea (Gozo Business Chamber); Her Excellency Djoeke Adimi-Koekkoek, Ambassador of the Netherlands to Malta; Her Excellency Caroline Whelan, Ambassador of Ireland to Malta; and Simon Schembri, Jennifer Cauchi, and Charles Micallef from Aġenzija Żgħażagħ.

It was a very exciting event where the participants were provided with insights from EU Ambassadors on their countries’ experiences and were also able to participate in two brainstorming sessions to generate impactful recommendations and at the end of the event networked with their peers and professionals.

The two main issues discussed were employment and housing for youth.

The final scope was to create an objective context, which would sensitise youth on the importance of participating in the upcoming European Parliament elections. This process in fact provided them with the tools necessary to contribute effectively by formulating concrete proposals in areas which have significant importance for them.
